23-09-22

The TIS - Tourism Innovation Summit 2022 returns to Seville from 2 to 4 November, with the aim of boosting the competitiveness of the tourism industry through innovative, technological and sustainable solutions. The leadership forum that was born in the midst of the pandemic and that has accompanied tourism professionals to rethink their businesses and proposals to the traveller to come out stronger in this new stage for the sector in which those who have prepared themselves are already reaping successes in terms of occupation and growth.

Under the slogan "New horizons for tourism tech", TIS2022 will analyse how the tourism sector has been transforming over the last two years, becoming more digital, environmentally friendly, respectful of the local and social economy and inclusive, a trend that will continue in the short and long term, as well as a lever of competitiveness for any tourism company. For 3 days, industry professionals will be able to learn first-hand about the most innovative solutions to transform their tourism businesses, disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence or the metaverse applied to travel or sustainable solutions that respond to new consumer interests based on climate awareness.

Silvia Avilés, director of TIS-Tourism Innovation Summit, highlights that "TIS was born by and for the tourism sector, with the purpose of teaching them to implement new technologies and transform current business models, operational processes and the traveller experience. In the last edition, during the 3 days of the congress, more than 5,200 professionals and more than 160 companies presented their innovation projects at TIS, consolidating this event in the calendar of events in the field of tourism".

Post-pandemic recovery

After two long years of pandemic, Spain is on the verge of a summer in which the sector with the greatest weight in the economy, tourism, can finally recover its pre-covid-19 figures. Last March, Spain received more than four million foreign tourists, a tenfold increase over the same period in 2021 and 72% of those arriving before the pandemic. The upturn in March and the good booking expectations of hotels, airlines and cruise ships suggest that over the next few months we may return to pre-crisis levels at the end of the high season.

The tourism industry is an international economic engine that in 2019 accounted for 10% of world GDP and 13% of national GDP. Reactivating tourism activity with all the guarantees of security and generating new business models and strategies focused on maximising the traveller's experience is one of the main objectives of the Tourism Innovation Summit.

Tourism Innovation Summit has the support of the Seville City Council, the Andalusian Regional Government and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, as well as international sectoral organisations such as WTTC, UNWTO, ETOA, Skal International, NECSTouR, PATA, Destinations International, European Cities Marketing (ECM) and MPI.
